Today’s beef industry has evolved to provide the consumer with a highly desirable beef eating experience of a product produced in a safe, wholesome manner. The well being of the animal is paramount to the industry. Every effort is taken to produce beef in an environmentally friendly manner.
Production includes following guidelines on proper administration of animal health products, best management practices and animal handling techniques. This assures the animal’s health and well being in addition to providing a safe, quality product for the consumer.
Arizona’s range cattle have long been discriminated against because “they get sick.” The pastures are large, and the stocking density is light. As a result, often the animal’s immune system has not been challenged by the more common animal diseases. This makes it critical to provide disease prevention practices to develop the animal’s immunity and protect the herd’s health. Arizona Rancher’s Beef Quality Assurance program is designed to achieve these objectives. The program has been designed to be user friendly for the Rancher.
The Arizona Rancher Beef Quality Assurance Program has been developed by the University of Arizona, Department of Animal Sciences and Arizona Cooperative Extension in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Agriculture State Veterinarian, Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association, Arizona Beef Council and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. This site has been developed with funding from the Beef Checkoff Program administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board
