Reed has extensive experience as a racing official, track manager and racing and gaming industry consultant. He has been affiliated with the RTIP for 12 years and is responsible for all aspects of the racing program, including administration, instruction, promotion and fundraising. He is also director of the RTIP's annual Symposium on Racing & Gaming, the world's largest pari-mutuel racing conference.

Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Reed was vice president of Santa Fe Racing, Inc., which operated two pari-mutuel tracks in New Mexico. He also spent many years as a racing official, including acting as racing secretary at Arlington Park, Oaklawn Park and Rockingham Park.

Reed has been a featured speaker and presenter at a variety of industry conferences, seminars and events, including events hosted by the Association of Racing Commissioners International, Harness Horsemen International, Harness Tracks of America, International Simulcast Conference, and Asian Racing Conference. He has facilitated numerous industry strategy sessions including the Canadian Racing Industry Strategy Session, the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association's Horseman's Forum, the National HBPA strategic planning and workgroups for the National Simulcast Conference.

Highly regarded on the international racing scene, Reed has ties to many international racing jurisdictions including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, Ireland, Australia, and Korea.
